What you're carrying

Around here we fix our own fences and keep our problems to ourselves. That works for fences.

It doesn't work for the stuff on this list. Left alone, it doesn't fade. It leaks into your sleep, your temper, your marriage, and your kids.

  1. Anxiety: The tight chest. The mind that won't shut off at 2 a.m.
  2. Depression: When getting out of bed is the whole day's work.
  3. Grief: A death, a divorce, a diagnosis. The one nobody brings up anymore.
  4. Your marriage: When you've stopped talking, or can't stop fighting.
  5. What happened: Trauma, at your pace. Nothing gets forced.
  6. Keeping it together: For everyone else. For years. You're allowed to put it down.
  7. Book my free 15-minute call

Fifteen minutes on the phone. Nothing to fill out first.

One hour a week that's just yours. No fixing anybody else.

Who you'd be talking to

Hi, I'm Joyce.

Sessions with me are plain talk. I ask good questions, I tell you what I see, and you leave with one thing to try that week.

No couch, no clipboard stare, no homework you'll feel bad about skipping. Some days we'll laugh. Some days you'll cry. Both are fine in here.[CONFIRM: Joyce's approach in her own words]

  • License[CONFIRM: license type + number, with the Texas lookup link]
  • Education[CONFIRM: highest counseling degree + school]
  • Who I see[CONFIRM: adults / teens (age) / couples / families]

Joyce's license and training go here once she confirms them, with a link to the state license lookup.

Straight answer: who I'm not right for

[CONFIRM: what Joyce doesn't take (e.g. court-ordered evaluations, young kids)] If that's you, call anyway and I'll point you to someone good.

Two cups. One conversation.

What it costs

No surprises. Not on the bill, not in the room.

$0

for the first 15-minute call

After that you'll know the exact cost before your first session. If you're paying your own way, you'll get a Good Faith Estimate in writing first. That's federal law, and it's how it should be anyway.

Using insurance

I'll check your benefits before we start, so your copay isn't a surprise.[CONFIRM: insurance plans accepted / in network]

Paying yourself

One clear price per session.[CONFIRM: self-pay rate + session length] HSA and FSA cards usually work for counseling.[CONFIRM: accepts HSA/FSA?]

Rates and insurance plans go here once Joyce confirms them.

  1. 01

    Free 15-minute call

Tell me a little about what's going on. I'll tell you honestly if I can help.

  2. 02

    First session

In person or by video, whichever feels easier.[CONFIRM: office location + video?]

  3. 03

    We decide together

How often, what we focus on, and when you're ready to stop. You're never locked in.

Worried someone will find out?

What you say stays between us. Nobody gets a call, an email, or a letter from me unless you ask for it.

Rather not leave the house? Video sessions are just as private. Plenty of people take them from a parked car on their lunch break.[CONFIRM: confirm video sessions]

The questions people don't ask out loud.

A big oak tree shading a sunny field of tall grass
Does needing counseling mean something's wrong with me?

No. It means something is hard, and you'd rather deal with it than carry it another year. That's the opposite of weak.

What if I don't know what to say?

Most people don't, at first. I'll ask the questions. You can start with "I don't know why I'm here" and we'll go from there.

Is what I say private?

Yes. Texas law protects what you tell a counselor. There are a few exceptions, like when someone is in danger or a child or older adult is being hurt. I'll walk you through every one of them on day one, before you tell me anything.

Will my employer or my insurance know?

Your employer gets nothing from me. If you use insurance, your plan gets what billing requires: the dates and a diagnosis code. Paying yourself keeps it all between us.

What if we're not a good fit?

Say so. It won't hurt my feelings. I'll help you find someone who is. That's why the first call is free.

Fifteen minutes. That's the whole first step.

Leave your first name and number. Joyce calls you back at the time you pick.[CONFIRM: callback promise (e.g. within one business day)]

OK to leave a voicemail?

No details needed here. That's what the call is for.

This form isn't for emergencies. If you're in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 988 any hour, or call 911.
