After the storm

How big was it?

Drawn to scale. Sizes from the National Weather Service. Tap a stone to book a hail check.

Quarter-size is the weather service's line for a severe storm. Three-tab shingles can crack at about an inch; heavier laminated shingles at about an inch and a quarter. Not sure what fell on yours? That's what the free inspection is for.

Insurance claims

What we do. And what Texas says no roofer can.

We do

  1. Climb up, inspect, and photograph every damaged spot
  2. Write you an estimate, line by line
  3. Meet your adjuster on the roof, if you want us there
  4. Do the work once you decide. Nothing up front.

No roofer in Texas can

  • §27.02Waive, cover, or rebate your deductible.Tex. Bus. & Com. Code §27.02
  • §4102.163Act as your adjuster or negotiate your claim.Tex. Ins. Code §4102.163

If someone at your door offers either one, that's your answer about them.

A new roof

Your price, in writing. Here's what sets it.

Size
How many squares (100 sq ft each) the roof covers.
Pitch
Steep roofs take more time and more safety gear.
Tear-off
How many old layers come off first.
Material
Architectural shingles, impact-resistant Class 4, or metal.
Decking
Rotten boards under the old roof have to be replaced, and they often don't show until it comes off.

Rather pay monthly? Ask about financing on a new roof.

Before you hire anyone

Texas doesn't license roofers.

Anyone with a ladder can call themselves one. So here's what to check, with us or anybody else:

  1. Insured?Ask for the certificate. We'll send ours.
  2. Local? We're based in Tyler. Ask every roofer where they're based, then check.
  3. In writing?A line-by-line estimate on letterhead, before any work.
  4. Money up front? You don't pay a dime until the work starts.

Straight answers

Are you licensed?

Texas doesn't license roofers, so no roofer here holds a state roofing license. What you can check: that we're insured (we'll send the certificate), that we're local, and that you get a written estimate before any work.

Can you cover my deductible?

No, and nobody should offer to. In Texas it's against the law for a contractor to waive, cover, or rebate your insurance deductible.

Will you handle my insurance claim?

We'll inspect, photograph the damage, write the estimate, and meet your adjuster on the roof if you want. We can't act as your adjuster or negotiate your claim; Texas law doesn't allow it.

Do I pay anything up front?

No. You pay once the work starts, never before.

Will an impact-resistant roof lower my insurance?

It may. Each insurance company sets its own discount, if it offers one, and Class 4 shingles usually get the most. Ask your agent before you choose, and ask what paperwork they need. TDI has a form for the install (PC068).

How long does a roof last?

Depends on the shingle, the install, and how much hail it's taken; hail ages shingles faster. The free inspection tells you where yours stands, with photos.
